I have worked with some of the best Art Directors in the country...Abbi Sussman at Columbia Records and Gary Wolkowitz of BBD&O come to mind...both award winning AD's who understood that marketing/advertising's first job is to "sell stuff."  Awards are secondary. Kim gets it.
